Mahavihara Security Improvements 2009-2010
As approved at the AGM of the Toronto Mahavihara Society held on 29th July 2007, the construction of the
front fence including the gate was completed on 31st March 2010. Subsequent to the arson attacks inflicted
during May and November of 2009, the membership was eager to improve the security further and made generous
donations for that purpose. As a result now we have not only a fence and an automated gate, but also a 13
colour camera surveillance system, 24/7 security monitoring service, upgraded rear fencing and a much improved
lighting right round the premises. The Surveillance Camera System can be viewed remotely over the Internet.
(See image on the left)
In deciding on the required security features, the Society was generally guided by
the recommendations submitted by the Crime Prevention Unit of the 43rd Division of Toronto Police under its
Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) Principles. Together with the substantial Government
Grant provided by the Ministry of Public Safety, Canada the Society was able to meet a major part of the
cost of construction of the above features.
The Society wishes to extend its sincere thanks to The Government of Canada, and Mahavihara members and its
friends whose generous support helped make this project a reality. The total cost of the project was $108,612.53.
There are several financial commitments that the Society made and their settlements are
still awaiting. In order to meet these commitments, a devoted group of members have organized monthly
Potluck Lunch Sales and the Society is exceedingly grateful for their efforts. In addition if you like
to make a donation you may do so at this link:

This is a great opportunity for you to participate in a meritorious deed that will go into the history of our
temple. All donations should be drawn in favour of Toronto Mahavihara Society and Tax Receipts will
be issued.

As approved at the AGM held on 29th July 2007,

the front (road side) boundary of the temple property. Such a fence will not only ensure the security
of the temple premises but will enhance its image considerably.
The basic cost of the project is
estimated at $48,318.00 and it has to be met from the generous donations from our members and friends
like you. The donations may be made to cover the full or part of the following items:
It is a great opportunity for you to participate in a meritorious deed that will go into the history of our temple.
